Kempinski Hotel Berchtesgaden (the property formerly operated as InterContinental Berchtesgaden, transitioned to Kempinski management in 2021) is the most dramatically located luxury hotel in the eastern Bavarian Alps — a 138-room contemporary resort built into a south-facing slope at 1,000m above the town of Berchtesgaden, with panoramic terraces facing Watzmann (Germany’s third-highest mountain), the Königssee lake immediately below, and Salzburg (in Austria) visible across the valley. The proposition is the location and the view: the infinity pool projects out from the hillside with the most photographed alpine view in Bavaria; the outdoor terrace at the bar is one of the great hotel sunset spots in the Alps; and the proximity to Lake Königssee (15 min by car or hotel shuttle), the Eagle’s Nest, the Berchtesgaden salt mines, and Salzburg (25 min) makes this the perfect base for the eastern Bavarian Alps.
