The Verdict
Worth it for your honeymoon?
Hotel Caesar Augustus has the single most photographed pool terrace in Italy — a 300m cliff-edge infinity pool on the western tip of Anacapri, looking straight down to the Tyrrhenian Sea with the Faraglioni rocks visible to the east and Punta Carena lighthouse to the west, that has appeared in more Capri honeymoon photographs than any other hotel feature on the island. Fifty-five rooms only, family-owned since 1968 by the Signorini family (now in their third generation of operation), occupying a former villa on a clifftop site so dramatic that the hotel’s edge is genuinely vertiginous — you stand at the parapet of the pool terrace and the sea is 300m straight down. The interiors are restrained, slightly traditional Italian-luxury (the contrast with the J.K. Place’s sharper design language is the simplest way to choose between them — J.K. Place if you want contemporary, Caesar Augustus if you want classic Capri); the public rooms are framed by the original 18th-century terracotta floors and antique Italian furniture. The La Terrazza di Lucullo restaurant on the pool-edge terrace under chef Salvatore Elefante (formerly of L’Olivo at Capri Palace) is excellent — high-Michelin-quality cooking without the formal star, served at the most spectacular dining setting on the island. The honeymoon move is one of the Junior Suites or Suites in the original villa building with a cliff-edge terrace. The defining moment: aperitivo at the pool bar at 7pm with the sun dropping into the Tyrrhenian, the lights of Sorrento glittering across the bay, and an Aperol Spritz at the parapet. Caveats: the cliff-edge location means many internal stairs and steeply descending paths within the property; Anacapri is the quieter half of the island (15-minute taxi to the Piazzetta); the hotel pool gets very busy mid-day in summer; and the genuinely dramatic location can feel intimidating to guests uncomfortable with heights. But for honeymooners who want the single most spectacular hotel view in Italy and a classic family-owned Italian-luxury operation, Caesar Augustus is incomparable.

Room Recommendation
Which room to book
A Junior Suite or Suite in the original villa with a cliff-edge terrace facing the Faraglioni. For the absolute pinnacle, the Caesar Suite with its 270° panoramic wraparound terrace. Avoid the rooms in the garden block at the back — lovely but you lose the cliff view that is the entire hotel.

Honest Assessment
What to know before you book
Anacapri location, not Capri Town. Piazzetta is 15 min by taxi.
Cliff-edge means many internal stairs and steeply descending paths. Mobility limitations a problem.
Pool can get busy mid-day in peak summer. Use the parapet edge at sunset and sunrise instead.
