The Verdict
Worth it for your honeymoon?
Hotel Punta Tragara is the most architecturally distinguished hotel on Capri — a villa originally designed in 1920 by Le Corbusier for Marshall Field of the Chicago department-store dynasty, sitting at the Belvedere di Tragara at the southeastern tip of Capri Town directly above the Faraglioni rocks. Forty-four rooms only — Le Corbusier’s villa was converted to a hotel after Field’s death in 1948, with the original villa interiors largely preserved (the central reception room is the original Le Corbusier rotunda, with the marble fireplace and Cubist murals intact) and a small number of additional rooms added over the years in the same Mediterranean-modernist vocabulary. The site is the genuine selling point: the hotel is built directly on the cliff above the Faraglioni — your terrace looks straight down at the rocks rising out of the sea below, with the natural arch in the middle stack visible from most rooms. Two clifftop swimming pools, the Mammà restaurant (one Michelin star under chef Salvatore La Ragione, serving contemporary Capri cuisine on the panoramic terrace) and the more casual Le Monzù grill complete the food operation. The Belvedere di Tragara walking path from the hotel takes you down to Da Luigi ai Faraglioni and the famous swim platforms in 20 minutes. The honeymoon move is one of the Junior Suites in the original Le Corbusier villa with a Faraglioni-facing terrace, or the spectacular Tragara Suite at the prow of the building. The defining moment: aperitivo on the pool deck at sunset with the Faraglioni rocks below glowing in the last light. Caveats: the 1920 villa heritage means the rooms are smaller than the contemporary Capri Palace or J.K. Place; the location at the Belvedere di Tragara is at the far end of via Tragara, a 12-minute walk from the Piazzetta (mostly uphill on the return); and Mammà’s one Michelin star is excellent but does not approach L’Olivo’s two. But for honeymooners who want the most architecturally significant hotel on Capri with the most direct Faraglioni view, Punta Tragara is the singular choice.

Room Recommendation
Which room to book
A Junior Suite in the original Le Corbusier villa with a Faraglioni-facing terrace. For the pinnacle, the Tragara Suite at the prow of the building. Avoid the rooms in the rear annex without Faraglioni views — lovely but you miss the entire point of the address.
