Worth it for your honeymoon?
J.K. Place Capri is the most polished and design-forward of the island’s great hotels — a 22-room boutique opened by the Florentine Kalpakian family in 2007, occupying a former schoolhouse on the cliff directly above Marina Grande, with an unobstructed panoramic view of the harbour, the Bay of Naples, and Vesuvius across the water. The interiors by Florentine designer Michele Bönan are coherent island-house chic — striped white-and-blue cottons, antique Sicilian terracotta floors, custom whitewashed-oak furniture, classical busts, and a deeply considered aesthetic that has been widely copied (and never matched) since the property opened. Twenty-two rooms means scale that is, by Capri standards, intimate but not micro. The infinity pool on the cliff-edge terrace facing the Bay of Naples is among the most photographed in Italy; the JKitchen restaurant on the panoramic terrace under chef Eduardo Estatico delivers Mediterranean cooking at a near-Michelin level (the property has won Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice every year since 2018); and the in-house spa, the JKSpa, is small but excellent for couples treatments. The hotel runs its own teak gozzo boat which guests can charter for the day at preferential rates — the Marina Grande launch jetty is two minutes’ walk down the cliff steps below the hotel. The honeymoon move is the Penthouse Suite — the top-floor 90 sqm suite with a vast private rooftop terrace including a hot tub, plunge pool, and 270° view of the bay. For the sweet spot, a Sea View Junior Suite with a private terrace. The defining moment: aperitivo at sunset on the cliff-edge terrace as the lights come on in Naples 30 km across the water and Vesuvius glows pink behind. Caveats: J.K. Place is in Marina Grande rather than Capri Town — the funicular up to the Piazzetta is a 2-minute walk and €2, but if you want the Piazzetta as your front door choose Quisisana or Punta Tragara; the cliff-edge means stairs (a lot of stairs) within the property; and the price is at the very top of the Capri market in summer. But for honeymooners who want the most contemporary, design-conscious, and view-led hotel on the island, J.K. Place is the unambiguous first choice.
